The millennial trend of posting images of unicorns on social media, and their curious obsession with unicorn-themed food and drinks, has inspired Starbucks to create a brand new drink. It’s a little less coffee and a little more “blended beverage,” but with mythical creatures and rainbow pizzazz.
According to the Starbucks website, the Seattle-based company is taking the twee trend to a new level and introducing the Unicorn Frappuccino.
The blended crème drink, according to Starbucks, “has a dusting of pink powder, blended into a crème Frappuccino with mango syrup and layered with a pleasantly sour blue drizzle. It is finished with vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkle of sweet pink and sour blue powder topping.”
What makes it magical like a unicorn, is that it starts off purple with swirls of blue and tastes sweet and fruity. Once it is stirred, its color changes to pink, and the flavor becomes tangy and tart. The more activity, the more its color and flavors transform.
Of course, you don’t have to be a millennial to experience it. Sales of the drink begin Wednesday April 19 and run through Sunday, April 23, while supplies last at participating Starbucks stores in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
